Microsoft rolls out DLP to SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business

Microsoft has expanded functions to prevent data loss in Office 365 so that they are available not only for its e-mail tools, but also for the data in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business.

Office 365 already had DLP capabilities for Exchange Online and Outlook, so that compliance officers can monitor e-mail communications and enforce corporate and regulatory standards regarding the use of sensitive corporate data such as confidential information, intellectual property and financial information of customers.
On Wednesday, Microsoft announced that it is now paying "DLP first steps" in the Collaboration Server and Office 365 SharePoint Online is OneDrive business service cloud storage for employees.

Administrators can search for content through SharePoint Online and OneDrive business, focusing on 51 predefined types of sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passport details, and information on social protection. If you identify policy gaps, they will be able to export a report and take appropriate action. DLP tasks are handled by the 365 Center Console eDiscovery Office.

"With this new feature, you can be better informed about what and where there are sensitive documents in SharePoint Online and OneDrive business. And having this information will help you work better with content owners to ensure the protection of sensitive data," the blog post reads.

By the end of the year, Microsoft plans to extend the functionality DLP, adding the ability to automatically detect sensitive content in accordance with the criteria and trigger actions such as deleting or quarantining the data. "It will also unify the entire experience for compliance through Office 365, which provides a consolidated, built-in security controls at your fingertips," the blog post reads.
